Deadwood

A frantically strummed piece of rock 'n rollicking that will win no prizes for originality (in, y'know, one of those hotly contested originality competitions), but seeing as it's reading from a blueprint that Carl Barat himself helped to sketch, that isn't something that should be held too firmly against Dirty Pretty Things. And after the slightly leaden plod of 'Bang Bang You're Dead', it's marvellous to hear his boys really thrashing away at something like this again.

"What will you do when they forget your name? Well, you'll have to get another one" is a terrific lyric delivered with a rediscovered nonchalance that suggests that Barat might just have stopped having to force out great lines and melodies, returning to a time where something so electric as 'Deadwood' just flows out from his authoring. Carl - yes please and thank you. Now write hundreds more of 'em.
