Deadwood
The slicker and altogether more sober fragment of the Libertines' implosion, Dirty Pretty Things are back with another slice of ramshackle rock. And it's not half bad, either. Unrelenting guitars, a furious pace, a catchy chorus, and a few 'aaah's borrowed from 'Twist And Shout', this outshines previous single 'Bang Bang, You're Dead' and gives some weight to the adulation directed at the band. By keeping his head down and getting on with the music, Carl Barat has earned the respect of the music community, and he's still pretty good with a tune, too, so while this might not quite live up to the glory of his former bands, it'll do very nicely for now.
